Counselling & Psychotherapy
A space to
feel heard,
understood
& supported
You may be feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or uncertain how to move forward. Sometimes it helps to have a calm, confidential space to make sense of how you are feeling.

"Something may have changed, or things may have felt difficult for some time without a clear reason. At times, it can be hard to know where to begin."
Therapy offers a space where you can begin to feel seen, heard and understood and where we can explore what is happening for you.
I work with adults across a wide range of difficulties, in person at three locations in south-west London, and online.
ABOUT ME
Brigitte Haston
MA, MBACP
I have a Master's degree in psychotherapy and counselling from Roehampton University and over ten years' experience in private practice. I have also worked within the NHS.
My training is person-centred and integrative. I am informed by psychodynamic thinking, which enables me to place present experiences within the context of earlier formative relationships and recurring patterns. I am also trained in cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT).
Prior to becoming a psychotherapist, I worked in corporate public relations. This background helped me understand the wish for a solution-driven approach, and I practise mindfulness as a counter to the pull of excessive planning.
I believe that understanding ourselves more clearly creates the possibility for greater choice, deeper connection and meaningful change.

HOW I WORK
An integrative,
person-centred
approach
I am an integrative therapist, which means I draw on different approaches depending on what you need.
At the centre of my work is the therapeutic relationship: a non-judgemental and supportive space where you can speak freely.
Together, this allows us to develop both understanding and ways of responding differently.
PERSON CENTERED THERAPY
Offering a steady and accepting relationship. You lead; I listen without judgement, believing in your capacity to grow.
PSYCHODYNAMIC THINKING
Helping us understand how past experiences and early relationships may still be shaping how you feel and behave today.
CBT INFORMED APPROACHES
Supporting you in recognising patterns between thoughts, feelings and actions with practical tools for making change.
WHO I WORK WITH
A wide range
of difficulties
I believe that loss, in the widest sense, is central to many of the difficulties we experience. It may be the loss of a person, but also the loss of identity, purpose or hope.
I help clients to adjust to change, and to see change as an opportunity for growth. Joint exploration brings understanding, self-awareness and the possibility of greater self-compassion.
— Anxiety, overwhelm and emotional exhaustion
— Grief, bereavement and loss
— Illness, cancer and existential anxiety
— Fertility and miscarriage
— Relationship, attachment and separation difficulties
— Self-esteem, identity and life transitions

REFLECTIONS FROM CLIENTS
From people I
have worked with
PERSON CENTERED THERAPY
“
I had never had counselling before and was a bit sceptical about its benefits. Brigitte completely demystified the process and I was pleasantly surprised by how practical it was.
PERSON CENTERED THERAPY
“
After losing my life partner I was debilitated by grief. Therapy not only helped me find a way of living with my loss but, importantly, of embracing life.
PERSON CENTERED THERAPY
“
Through understanding myself better, I was able to find the answers myself and feel that I was making informed choices.
PERSON CENTERED THERAPY
“
My sessions helped me recognise patterns and automatic thoughts that were shaping my behaviour. This awareness gave me a greater sense of choice and the ability to make changes.

INSPIRATION
Words that
resonate
Here are some poems and reflections I return to. Both of the poems below were written many centuries ago affirming that the human condition and wish for fulfilment is universal across time and across continents.
The Guest House
This being human is a guest house.
Every morning a new arrival.
A joy, a depression, a meanness,
some momentary awareness comes
as an unexpected visitor.
Welcome and entertain them all!
Even if they are a crowd of sorrows,
still, treat each guest honourably.
He may be clearing you out
for some new delight.
— Rumi (13th century)
“I get so lost in where I want to go, I forget that the place I am in is already quite magical.”
— Rupi Kaur
A Blessing (Anam Cara)
May the light of your soul guide you.
May you be present in what you do.
May you never become lost in the bland absences.
May the day never burden.
May the dawn find you awake and alert,
approaching your new day with dreams, possibilities and promises.
May evening find you gracious and fulfilled.
— Celtic poem
“Today is a gift. That is why we call it the present.”
— Eleanor Roosevelt
"Stillness is not just an indulgence for those with enough resources — it is a necessity for anyone who wishes to gather less visible resources."
— Pico Iyer
